Kylie Harbert is one of three Tilmon Lab 2023 undergraduate Student Assistants this summer. Kylie is currently a junior at Otterbein University (Westerville, OH), where she is a quadruple major studying Zoo and Conservation Science, Biology, Music Education, and Saxophone Performance!
Kylie began working in the Tilmon Lab in early May. Her favorite project has been the LEP monitoring project, where she has enjoyed collecting moths, learning to make maps on ARCGIS, and helping write the articles to be published in the weekly C.O.R.N. Newsletter. Kylie has also enjoyed learning about the cereal leaf beetle (CLB) and working with the other student's in the lab to develop a poster to describe CLB damage to various small grains. Other activities Kylie has enjoyed in the Tilmon lab have been collecting and pinning insects, as well as rearing and catching Western bean cutworm moths in the blacklight trap. Kylie hasn’t found an insect she doesn’t like yet, but some of her favorite insects include leopard moths, Picasso beetles, crab spiders, and Australian walking sticks.
In the future, Kylie plans to pursue a job in zoology and conservation, as well as non-profit music education and pit performances on various woodwind instruments. Kylie has been a great addition to the Tilmon Lab. She is a great leader and team member! We have enjoyed her passion about science and motivation in the field!
