Congratulations to Stephanie Pflaum for being selected as one of the 2024 Ohio EPA Environmental Scholarship Winners! Steph is a senior at Ashland University, and has worked as an undergraduate summer researcher in the Tilmon Lab since 2023. One of Steph's main focuses in our lab has been assisting with the weekly Lep Pest Monitoring Network, which monitors 5 pests of field corn including the black cutworm, true armyworm, western bean cutworm, corn earworm and fall armyworm. In her recommendation letter, Dr. Tilmon wrote "Ms. Pflaum learned to use ARC GIS software, which allowed her to develop weekly maps to illustrate pest pressure across the state. This activity piqued her interest in ARC GIS and she is currently in a class to further her education on GIS software. Her contributions to the newsletters also involved working with others, reaching out to the county Extension Educators who were collecting the data to obtain the information from them."
Steph's work in the Tilmon Lab, using ARC GIS and providing data for our county educators and growers was highlighted in the scholarship announcement. Way to go Steph!!
